#VirtualInsanity | My thoughts on social media and its addiction

Before social media you had photographers, whose passion was, and maybe still is to some I assume, to capture the perfect moment in hopes to get the proper acknowledgement (and touch the heart of those who felt compelled to the nature of the picture).

This was a thoughtful process that required a good set and material positioned beforehand in order to freeze the moment perfectly.

Internet then became more accessible to the masses, which caused a shift worldwide --knowledgeable by 1990s babies during the mid/late Crazy Frog 2000s, -- when people had access to public spaces with internet and were figuring out what to do and how to make the best of it from the desktop computers.

Now what really connected people was the introduction of 3G wireless smartphones around the 2010s. A new generation of content creators immerged and their creative freedom allowed them to adapt to the smart technology and share their content on social media platforms that are still operational to this day.

Pop culture has never been so popular and supportive of the upcoming artists who were about to pave the way. Fans could easily link up with each other on social media and express their love and devotion to their faves. Stan culture was escalating and it would never be the same again.

But that wasn't the only kind of idolatry that was on the rise. Soon after Instagram stepped in selfies became a trend. The face and the body were the main focus, an unwritten requirement that suggested people to step up on their looks as they leaned the traffic it did bring, which opened a wound for superficialities and insecurities.

People now possessed a portable device and signed in to social media platforms and share their lives whenever and however they felt convenient. If one once thought that those AOL chat rooms were questionable and MSN Plus users were fake here is where the face of the problem lies.

Internet became an addiction and the need to share, comment, and draw attention had no limits. Social media platforms policies and terms of service were obsolete. You could come across the most insensitive, unexpected things online and profit financially from it.

At the time the internet was children's recess with no walls, so everyone was vulnerable to what and whom they were exposed to, from philias to phobias.

People had no shame being ignorant and disrespectful, but the outrage wasn't as big back then as it is today, not only because of the policies, but because of the age group of those who back then were too gullible to care and feed into the foolishness.

People were dumb, wild, and acting a little too freely. Being whoever they wanted to be online by creating internet alter egos. Audiences were either entertained or blinded by the viral trends that would later affect their teenage years and subconsciously play a part on the next stage of their lives.

What was once fun became a little dangerous. The internet introduced regular people to a world they didn't quite understand. People experimented, played, and had fun. Then reality and superficial merged and people got virtually insane, especially when money got involved.

Mid 2010s and everything is news, however what's heard or seen is not on television, but what's viral online. People get entertained and emotionally attached to what they follow without getting to the bottom of things or question the shady undertones of it.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but how many Lives cost a thousand frames?
